Technical Post: Green Screen

The Green Screen:

The green screen, or 'Chroma Key', is single coloured back drop which can be used to add a full background or fragments of a setting in a media product via post-production.

The scene is recorded as normal but elements are later superimposed using photoshop software through chromakeying, which is identifying one colour in the background (this will usually be green) and making this colour transparent.

..Because of the absolute removal of one particular colour it is important for all subjects in the scene to steer clear of this colour; otherwise unwanted fragments will be removed and situations of this sort can arise...

If the chroma key is used to add a realistic background to create a sense of realism in the scene, it is particularly important to match the lighting correctly; if the background is exterior lighting of the subject should either be natural or artificial but made o look natural etc.

PLANNING: GROUP PITCH TO CLASS

Initial decisions with audience feedback:

We're deciding on using locations such as a skateboard park, as we feel that will best suit the lyrics as they are talking about a move from an old relationship. Also, we decided on a shot to be set in a bar, as it will give more insight into the song, as usually after a break-up, people are seen sitting in a bar. There will also be shots of time lapse in London, which will also emphasize on the time, maybe describing how slow it's going and the world around doesn't stop moving. Finally, there may be shots of a person being kicked by his partner, and his clothes being thrown out onto the streets, which can relate to the lyrics as we can portray it as flashbacks in black and white, which will put emphasis on the pain he went through, and is still going through.

R n B the Scene Currently

Continuing from the 1990s and early 2000s, R&B, like many other genres, drew influences from the technical innovations of the time and began to incorporate more electronic and machine-made sounds and instruments. The use of effects such as Auto-Tune and new computerized synths have given R&B a more futuristic feel while still attempting to incorporate many of the genre's common themes such as love and relationships. The evolutions of the genre's production and instrumentation have spurred the successes of performers such as Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, Usher, John Legend, Frank Ocean, Justin Timberlake, Pharrell Williams, Miguel, Janelle Monáe,Chris Brown, Jhené Aiko, Jennifer Lopez, Tamar Braxton, The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Tinashe, Ne-Yo, Rihanna, Brandy and K. Michelle.
Early 2010's artist Kelly Rowland, Ne-Yo, Usher, and Chris Brown began embracing new electronic influences and kept R&B's original feel. Kelly Rowland"s "Commander", Usher's "OMG", "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love", and "Climax", Chris Brown's "Yeah 3x", "Turn Up the Music" and
"Don't Wake Me Up" are all EDM-oriented. As this electronic element continues to grow apparent throughout the genre, contemporary artists like are gaining popularity outside of R&B and continue to collaborate with non-R&B artists.
Singers Miguel, John Legend, Jeremih, and Eric Bellinger are popular in mainstream hip hop for many collaborations with rappers such as Wale, Rick Ross, YG, and J.Cole. Today's R&B is far more diverse and incorporates more sonic elements than before, as it expands its appeal and commercial viability.[Trap music's influence maintained a strong presence on the music charts with R&B singer Beyoncé's songs "Drunk in Love", "Flawless" and "7/11", as well as Bryson Tiller's debut studio album, TRAPSOUL

Technical Post: Rule of Thirds

The Rule of Thirds

In film making ,though the script is at heart of the film, it's through the lens that it comes to life; placing importance on the composition of a shot.

The rule of thirds is where four lines intersect each-other to create 9 equal sized boxes overlapping the shot. According to this rule, used to ensure a balanced composition of mise en scene, important elements should be placed along these lines or their intersections.
Although these are just general guidelines, admittedly a film or video would be boring if all shots were composed of the subject being placed in the center.

Technical Post: Fighting 'Noise'

The issue of image noise:

Digital image noise can be a major problem with both photography and video making, manifesting itself in the form of little random patterned coloured specks/dots. Noise can be dependent on the quality of equipment but relies on many other features too.

__________________________________________

Some Ways To Stop Noise:

'WIKI HOW' Advises:
  • Keep the camera as cool as possible, over heating can increase noise
  • ISO SETTING: Keep ISO as low as possible; compromise with higher exposure instead
__________________________________________

Noise can also be removed in post production stages:
However it's better to 'prevent' than 'cure'...

Technical Post: Three Point Lighting.

Importance of Lighting:

Lighting is undoubtedly something critical in film making, and can be used not only to enhance the quality of a recording but also to bring out certain features or create a different mood.

Key Light: This is the main and strongest light placed so that one side of the subject is in shadow
Fill Light: This light is placed on the opposing side of the camera to the key light in order to 'fill' the shadow made prominent by the key light. It is usually softer than the key light and often set to a higher 'flood' setting; meaning that the beam is wider.
Back Light: It's main purpose serves to provide a separation of the subject from the background, giving the composition more dimension and outlining the features of the subject.

Above is an example to show how lighting is manipulated in Spielberg's 'Schindlers List' with Janusz Kaminski as cinematographer. Kaminski manipulates the lighting; using a sharp back light and a soft fill light setting a dark atmosphere and emphasising the cigarette smoke.

3 Point Lighting Experiment

Chroma key compositing, or Chroma keying, is a special effects / post-production technique for compositing two images or video streams together based on colour hues

when using the Chroma key on final cut pro its hard to get clear back ground due to my lack of experience, the back ground has a slightly fizzy texture on the background , Also there is a a visible difference in the lighting  in the corner.
with help from YouTube I have learnt how to remove the technical difficulties for next time i am editing for my actual music videos.
(disclaimer not the song I lip sink to )This is the actual final first try at using the Chroma key on final cut pro
I tried an experiment of using the Dolly with the Chroma Key this is to try and create different aspects and effect by combining two different techniques also , at the end of this experiment if found that it could be done but I will possibly have to attach the green screen on the dolly , this is also something I will have to experiment with to get maximum potential out of it .

BRAYTON BOWMAN JAYWALK LYRICS

JAYWALK LYRICS:
who says that i
i don’t deserve to move on
lemme catch my breath
who says that my
first love was the last one
last one i’d ever get
i thought we had something worth forever
well looks like i was wrong
cause i’m stuck smoking on the rest of together
i been gettin high just to get by
ever since you left wrong turnt right for me
now i can see tomorrow chillin across the street
sometimes you got to jaywalk
when you can’t wait to be okay
you got to jaywalk
if you can’t let go of yesterday
you better jaywalk
you can’t keep waiting on a light to change
strut your shit and pound the pavement
it’s time to jaywalk
it took me six whole months worth of blunts
to get the taste of you
the taste of you off my tongue
and it was hard to
convince myself to stop holding on
and let go of my first love
i’m sorry if my pride and i were latched on too tightly
to what we were
but you sent me flying, trippin
when you kicked me to the curb
been here gettin high just to get by
ever since you left wrong turnt right for me
now i can see tomorrow chillin across the street
sometimes you got to jaywalk
when you can’t wait to be okay
you got to jaywalk
if you can’t let go of yesterday
you better jaywalk
you can’t keep waiting on a light to change
strut your shit and pound the pavement
it’s time to jaywalk
if you take two steps forward and one step back
then you’re still moving forward
no you can’t look back
if you take two steps forward and one step back
then you’re still moving forward
so you better not look back
you got to jaywalk
when you can’t wait to be okay
you got to jaywalk
if you can’t let go of yesterday
you better jaywalk
you can’t keep waiting on a light to change
strut your shit and pound the pavement
it’s time to jaywalk
when you can’t wait to be okay
you got to jaywalk
if you can’t let go of yesterday
you better jaywalk
you can’t keep waiting on a light to change
strut your shit and pound the pavement
it’s time to jaywalk

GIRLS

Using Polyvore, I used the clothes to demonstrate the style of clothing and the general aesthetic of a typical Indie Pop music fan. As Indie Pop is quite a new and innovative genre with sonic and lyrical influences from past decades, I tried to make the clothing set reflect this.

For the girls, these clothing would fit perfectly, in the pop indie genre as they are quite vibrant and match the theme of a colorful pop music genre videos.
